OPEN MRI is just as it's described... it is open on all sides and allows patients with claustrophobic tendancies to have a more comfortable experience.

OPEN MRI utilizes magnets and radio waves to create images of your body without the use of radiation.? There is some banging noise during the exam which is a normal part of the exam. You may use earplugs if the noise is too loud. You may be asked to change into a scrub top and/or bottom prior to the exam.

The exam generally takes 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the exam your doctor ordered. You will be asked to lie on the exam table which is then moved into position with the OPEN MRI. You must lie as motionless as possible to avoid blurring of the images. Blurring of the images makes it difficult for the Radiologist to accurately interpret the exam.

Some patients find it helpful to take a mild sedative prior to the exam. Ask your doctor to prescribe this for you. If you do require a sedative, you must bring someone with you to the exam - you will not be allowed to drive afterward.

After the exam, the test will be reviewed by our Radiologist and a report will be sent to your physician. Your physician will contact you regarding the results of your exam.
